Electric car future charged by WattStation with wise grid tech

General Electric announced that they’ll not have the WattStation, or new electric car charging station. The time it takes to charge a 24 kWh battery is reduced by two thirds. The WattStation is going to be accessible both commercially and for home use.

Technology for the WattStation

The WattStation charging unit uses smart-grid technology to help it. Smart grid tech uses a two-way digital control that delivers extra energy to areas with very high demand. Transmission lines that are superconductive help the wise grid pull energy to help the battery charge faster.

WattStation – will it work?

A battery can be charged in four to eight hours with WattStation according to General Electric. Usual charging times, depending on the electric car, are between twelve and eighteen hours. Most batteries nevertheless take at least twelve hours to charge although that time is getting reduced.

Electric car battery difficulties

Getting enough power to run a automobile is the biggest problem for electric cars. No matter what the battery is made with, it still will take time to charge. Electric transmission systems and lines can only deliver so much power at once. This issue is supposedly fixed by WattStation.

Is WattStation something buyers are interested in?

Car makers have always been frustrated with electric cars. Only certain are likely to be interested electric cars although the market is getting larger. Long charging times and questionable battery technology make it much more attractive to stay with gas-powered cars for most buyers. Since the WattStation is here, GE think more individuals will switch to electric cars.
