The nation tunes in to Kate Gosselin on Larry King
Every week, Kate Gosselin finds some way to get herself back in the news again. Or is it that every week the news finds some way to capitalize on the nation’s fascination with her? Well, the latter seems to be true, as Larry King is the master of CNN, and he invited her to be on his show.
I read an Entertainment Weekly story about Kate Gosselin on Larry King, and it reported on the viewer comments that were running across the bottom of the screen. Someone wrote “Kate really needs to stop acting like a celebrity.” If Kate Gosselin on Larry King doesn’t show her level of celebrity, I don’t know what does. She certainly is rich for a non-celebrity. She didn’t pay for that big house with emergency cash loans.
No fame, no gain
I can understand why someone would imply that Kate Gosselin — on Larry King or not — isn’t a celebrity. Celebrities are usually famous because they have an extraordinary skill of some type, such as singing or playing football. Kate Gosselin is famous because she had a lot of kids and let camera crews into her house.
Kate Gosselin is famous because of her job, her line of work. Her job just happens to be letting people film her and her children. And her soon-to-be ex-husband, who has garnered his own fame, although he doesn’t do shows like Kate Gosselin on Larry King. He is a different type of celebrity — the villain.
Famous for being famous
Another little tidbit for the person who thinks Kate Gosselin is “acting like a celebrity” is that Kate Gosselin’s name has been one of the most popular search terms on Google all summer. From the moment rumors started about she and Jon allegedly having affairs until Kate Gosselin was on Larry King, she has popped up on the national radar on a regular basis, usually about once a week.
So did Kate Gosselin become a celebrity when people started accusing her husband of being unfaithful? No, sorry America, she became a celebrity as soon as the first episode of “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ was aired on TLC. A lot of people don’t think that reality show participants are celebrities, but reality TV is the new most popular form of entertainment in the country. People used to watch sitcoms and concerts, and now they watch reality TV.
Keep the cash flowing
Plenty of reality show contestants now are starting to be the man subject of other reality shows. Being on a reality show is enough nowadays to turn yourself into a household name. Everyone knows the name “Omorosa,” a woman who became famous for her bad attitude.
As soon as people discovered they could make lots of money just by letting the cameras roll, it became all the rage. And people watched. People watched “Newlyweds,” they watched “Bad Girls Club,” and they watched a woman who didn’t win on “Rock of Love” conduct her own search for “the one.” And they watched Kate Gosselin on Larry King.
